SURMOUNT-2 measured tirzepatide in adults who had both obesity and type 2 diabetes

Over 72 weeks, weekly tirzepatide 10 mg and 15 mg produced larger mean weight reductions than placebo. The trial is not SURMOUNT-1.

Garvey and colleagues published SURMOUNT-2 in The Lancet. Adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes were assigned to once-weekly tirzepatide 10 mg, tirzepatide 15 mg, or placebo for 72 weeks. Of 938 participants who were randomized and received at least one dose, the groups were 312, 311, and 315. The registry number is NCT04657003.

The weight result, with its estimand

On the treatment-regimen estimand, which keeps people in the analysis if they stop the drug or start rescue therapy, mean weight change at week 72 was 12.8 percent with 10 mg, 14.7 percent with 15 mg, and 3.2 percent with placebo. The most frequent adverse events on tirzepatide were nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting, mostly mild or moderate. A different estimand in the same paper can print a different percentage. Not the trial without diabetes

SURMOUNT-1 studied obesity without type 2 diabetes. SURMOUNT-2 required diabetes. A percentage from one of them is not a result for the other dose, the other disease mix, or a compounded copy. The DOI is the place to check which analysis a sentence came from.
